The historic Maghi Jor Mela, held in memory of the Forty Liberated Ones (Chali Mukte) of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, will commence tomorrow at Sri Muktsar Sahib. Traditionally a two-day festival observed on January 14 and 15, the celebrations this year are expected to continue for nearly two months due to a large entertainment fair set up on Malout Road. From today onwards, devotees have started arriving in Sri Muktsar Sahib to pay homage to the Chali Mukte. Although devotees begin taking a holy dip in the sarovar of Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib from the night of Lohri, a huge influx of sangat is expected from 4 AM on Wednesday for the sacred bath and homage. The Akhand Path Sahib, which began last Monday at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Sahib, will conclude with bhog on January 14 at 7:30 AM. Lakhs of devotees will pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Shaheed Ganj Sahib, and other historic shrines. According to Bhai Nirmaljeet Singh, Manager of Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, special religious congregations will be held on January 13 and 14 at Bhai Maha Singh Diwan Hall, where raagi jathas, dhadi groups, and scholars will perform Gurbani kirtan and discourse. On January 15, a special dhadi program will be held at Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib, and an Amrit Sanchar ceremony will take place at Gurdwara Tambu Sahib at 11 AM. A grand Nagar Kirtan will also be organized the same day. Starting from Gate No. 4 of Gurdwara Sahib, it will proceed via Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib and return to Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib for its conclusion. A special exhibition depicting Sikh history will be displayed in the parikrama. Large numbers of pilgrims are expected to visit major historical gurdwaras such as Sri Darbar Sahib, Shaheed Ganj Sahib, Tambu Sahib, Rakabsar Sahib, and Datanser Sahib.
