Painde Khan came to fight a battle with Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

On April 26, Painde Khan came from Jalandhar with a Mughal army to fight Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji at Kartarpur. Let us reflect on this history. A humble request to everyone to read history carefully. This page exists to share history with the Sangat, not for money or publicity. The court of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was assembled. Sikh warriors stood alert, and devotees were coming for darshan and offerings. Guru Sahib noticed a group of armed young men and called them. Their leader said, “We are Pathans; fighting is our profession.” Among them was a tall, strong youth — Painde Khan. He was orphaned and raised by his uncle Ismail Khan. Guru Sahib accepted him into service and decided to train him into a great warrior. He was given excellent diet and rigorous training. Painde Khan became extremely powerful, capable of stopping strong horses and lifting heavy weights. Over time, tensions grew between the Mughal empire and Guru Sahib. The Mughals objected to Guru Sahib’s concept of temporal authority (Miri). War was initiated on a pretext. In the Battle of Lohgarh, Guru Sahib’s forces defeated the Mughal army. Painde Khan displayed great bravery in battle. However, pride eventually entered his heart. One day, Guru Sahib gifted him fine clothes, a horse, and a white falcon. On his way home, his son-in-law Asman Khan, driven by greed, took these items from him. When Guru Sahib later asked about the falcon, Painde Khan lied. Even after the truth came out, he refused to admit it and left in anger. He then went to the Mughal emperor seeking revenge. The emperor accepted and launched an attack on Kartarpur. A fierce battle lasted for three days, with heavy losses on both sides. Finally, Painde Khan confronted Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji directly. Guru Sahib gave him the first chance to strike. He attacked three times, but all his blows failed. Then Guru Sahib struck back and fatally wounded him. In his final moments, Painde Khan said: “O Guru Ji, your sword is my Kalma; please grant me salvation.” Guru Sahib showed compassion and shaded him with his shield. Within moments, Painde Khan breathed his last. Say aloud — Blessed is Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj!
