Birth and Background Bhai Joga Singh Ji was born in Peshawar (present-day Pakistan). He was among the brave warriors of the Khalsa. In the presence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, he took Amrit and considered becoming part of the Khalsa as the greatest honor of his life. Guru’s Command at the Time of Marriage Bhai Joga Singh Ji’s marriage had been fixed. When he was sitting to perform the lavan (marriage rounds), at that very moment a message came from Guru Gobind Singh Ji calling him for immediate service. Without a moment’s hesitation, Bhai Joga Singh Ji abandoned his wedding rounds and set out directly to serve Guru Sahib. This incident became the greatest example of his unwavering devotion and obedience to the Guru. Service with Guru Sahib Guru Gobind Singh Ji entrusted him with many important tasks. Especially in the battles of Anandpur Sahib, he fought alongside Guru Sahib with great valor. He was not only a warrior of the sword but also a true bearer of the faith. The Famous Incident – Night of Weakness There is a well-known story about Bhai Joga Singh Ji. Once, while returning from completing Guru Sahib’s service in a town, he was overcome by lust during the night and turned toward the wrong path. As he was about to enter the house of a prostitute, Guru Gobind Singh Ji appeared before him right there. Guru Ji saved him from sin and reminded him that a Khalsa never walks on the path of immorality. This event transformed Bhai Joga Singh Ji permanently. From then onward, he never even thought of straying from the path of righteousness. Final Life and Martyrdom Bhai Joga Singh Ji rendered countless services for Guru Sahib and eventually sacrificed his life at the feet of the Guru. His name is remembered among those true Sikhs who gave up their comforts, married life, and even their lives but never disobeyed the Guru’s command.
