Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji

The entire conversation that the Qazi had with Guru Sahib in Delhi was reported to Aurangzeb. In November 1675, the emperor’s order regarding Guru Sahib arrived. Carrying that royal decree, the chief Qazi came to Guru Sahib and said: “Either recite the Kalma and accept Islam, or perform a miracle to prove yourself a true Guru, or be prepared for death.” Guru Sahib calmly and firmly replied: “We accept neither of the emperor’s conditions. We are not ready to abandon our faith, nor to display miracles. You may proceed with whatever action you wish.” Hearing this response, the Qazi ordered Guru Sahib to be executed. The time of execution was fixed and an announcement was made throughout the city. At the appointed hour, Guru Sahib was taken from the prison to Chandni Chowk. Upon knowing His final wish, He was allowed to bathe at the nearby well. After bathing, Guru Sahib sat cross-legged under the banyan tree. Thousands of people — Hindus, Sikhs and even Muslims — had gathered to witness the heartbreaking moment. Their hearts were filled with grief and tears rolled from their eyes. Guru Sahib told the executioner that He would begin reciting Gurbani and, “When the recitation concludes, you may fulfil your duty.” Guru Sahib began reciting Japji Sahib with complete concentration, His consciousness absorbed in the Divine. When the recitation was complete, He bowed His head saying “Dhan Waheguru.” The executioner, Syed Jalal-ud-Din, raised his sword and struck. Guru Sahib’s sacred head was severed from His body. It was Maghar Sudi 5, Samvat 1732 — 11 November 1675 CE. The place where Guru Sahib was martyred is today known as Gurdwara Sis Ganj. 👉 Please share this post so that more brothers and sisters can stay connected with our glorious history — this too is a form of seva.
