Sikh history is filled with countless sacrifices. This sakhi is about Bhai Gulab Singh from the village Akbarpur Khudal, Tehsil Bareta, District Mansa. He was born in the goldsmith (Swarnaakar) community and worked as a gold artisan. Bhai Sahib received Khande-Baate da Amrit from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Sri Anandpur Sahib and became a Singh. After returning to his village, he continued his work while actively spreading the message of Sikhi. In the same village lived a Nawab named Nabi Bakhsh, intoxicated with the power of the Mughal rule. He disliked Bhai Sahib preaching Sikhi. He had Bhai Gulab Singh’s hands chained with handcuffs, feet tied with iron shackles, and imprisoned him inside a deep underground pit. While lying in that pit, Bhai Sahib prayed to Guru Sahib: “O Guru Sahib, if your innocent Sikh dies like this, it will be a disrespect to the Sikh faith.” At that time, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was travelling westwards through the Sarsa region. Upon learning of the situation, Guru Sahib, along with some Sikhs, arrived at Akbarpur Khudal on 1st November 1706, Friday. Leaving their horses outside the village, they walked to the spot where the pit was located. They overpowered the guards and Guru Sahib instructed Bhai Gulab Singh to come out. Bhai Sahib replied, “I am bound in chains.” Guru Sahib said: “Say ‘Satnam Waheguru’; the chains will break on their own.” Bhai Sahib recited it, and the shackles miraculously broke. He emerged from the pit. Guru Sahib embraced him and declared: “This is my steadfast (sidki) Sikh.” Thus, Guru Sahib rescued and blessed his devoted follower. Waheguru Ji ❤️🙏 Waheguru Ji ❤️🙏
