Rescuing a Hindu girl from the Mughals

On 7 March 1703, Sahibzada Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Udai Singh Ji, following the command of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, rescued a Hindu girl from the Mughals and respectfully returned her to her family. Author: Zorawar Singh Tarsikka Once, a Diwan was being held at Sri Anandpur Sahib when a Brahmin named Devdas (also known as Devidas) arrived crying and wailing. He was a resident of village Joje near Hoshiarpur. Guru Ji calmed him and asked the reason for his sorrow. The Brahmin explained that a cruel Pathan named Zabar Khan from Bassi used to commit severe atrocities against Hindus, abducting Hindu girls and dishonoring them. I was returning after bringing my wife home (Muklawa ceremony) when the Pathans snatched my Brahmin wife away. I cried and pleaded, but no one came to my help. They beat me mercilessly and took my wife away. I went to government courts and appealed before many Nawabs, folding my hands in supplication, but no one listened to me. Now I have come seeking your refuge. Please help me and restore my wife to me. Guru Gobind Singh Ji then commanded Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji, saying that Zabar Khan of Bassi had abducted this Brahmin’s wife. Take the Singhs with you, rescue the Brahmin woman with lightning-like speed, and hand her back safely. Punish Zabar Khan severely for his crimes. Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji took Bhai Udai Singh along with 100 Singhs and seated the Brahmin on a horse. Before dawn had even broken, the Singhs attacked the Pathans of Bassi. Breaking open the gate of the haveli, they entered inside. Seeing the Singhs, the Pathans raised cries of “The Singhs have arrived!” No Pathan had the courage to confront the Singhs. In desperation to save their lives, they clashed swords, during which many Pathans were killed and some Singhs were wounded. Zabar Khan was hiding in an inner chamber. The Singhs captured him, and the Brahmin identified him as the culprit. The Brahmin woman was also found inside and safely handed over to her husband. Nothing else was touched. Later, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji reached the place where today Gurdwara Shaheedan Ladewal, near Mahilpur, stands. Some of the wounded Singhs attained martyrdom during the night. The next morning, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji himself performed their cremation with his own hands. Zabar Khan was bound and placed on a horse, and along with the rescued Brahmin woman, all reached Anandpur Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh Ji handed the Brahmin woman back to the Pandit and sent her home, saying— “For those for whom all doors are closed, the doors of Guru Nanak Sahib are always open. For those whom no one helps, my Khalsa will always stand with them.” Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
