Gurdwara Suhela Ghoda Sahib is a historical site associated with the Sixth Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. There was a devoted Sikh named Karori Mal from Kabul who had immense faith in the Guru. In the year 1635, this Sikh presented horses to Guru Sahib. The horses were initially named Dilbagh and Gulbagh, but later Guru Sahib renamed them as Jan Bhai and Suhela Ghoda (the Gentle Horse). When Mata Sulakhni Ji was blessed with sons, Guru Sahib was mounted on the Suhela horse. Guru Ji also fought the battle of Kartarpur while riding on Suhela Ghoda. During the battle, the horse was wounded. After winning the battle of Kartarpur, Guru Sahib was on his way to Kiratpur Sahib, but on the way, the horse gave up its life. At that time, the horse’s body bore many bullet wounds. During the cremation, about one and a quarter maunds (around 20 kilograms) of unminted coin metal was found in the horse’s body. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, along with his Sikhs, performed the Ardas and personally conducted the cremation of Suhela Ghoda. From that day onward, the place became renowned as Suhela Ghoda Sahib.
