The Second Day of the Sahibzadas in the Governor’s Court

The Second Day of the Sahibzadas in the Governor’s Court Date: 12 Poh (December 1704) Place: Sirhind – Court of Wazir Khan 1. Second Appearance in the Court As on the first day, the Sahibzadas were brought out of the Cold Tower and presented again in the court of Sirhind. Wazir Khan believed that after spending the entire night hungry and exposed to the cold, the children would be frightened and might accept Islam. However, as soon as the Sahibzadas entered the court and thunderously proclaimed— “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,” the entire court was stunned into silence. 2. Temptation and Threats Wazir Khan tried once again to manipulate them with affection and temptation. He said— “Children, if you accept Islam, you will be given silk garments, precious jewelry, and great estates. You will live a life of luxury and comfort.” The Sahibzadas replied fearlessly— “We have no need for your kingdoms or wealth. We are the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, who taught us to sacrifice ourselves for righteousness. Our faith is dearer to us than our lives.” 3. The Provocative Role of Suchanand When Wazir Khan was left speechless by their response, the courtier Diwan Suchanand inflamed the situation further. He asked— “If we were to release you, what would you do?” Without hesitation, the Sahibzadas replied— “We will go to the forests, gather the Sikhs, take up arms, and fight oppression until this tyrannical rule is brought to an end.” Suchanand then provoked Wazir Khan, saying— “These are the offspring of a serpent. Releasing them is dangerous. Crushing them now is the only wise option.” 4. The ‘Cry of Protest’ by the Nawab of Malerkotla Wazir Khan addressed Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan of Malerkotla— “Your brother was killed in the Battle of Chamkaur by Guru Ji’s elder son, Ajit Singh. Punish these children and take your revenge.” Demonstrating true humanity, Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan responded— “My revenge was against the one who fought on the battlefield. These children are innocent. Oppressing them goes against the teachings of Islam.” He raised a ‘Ha-a’ cry of protest against Wazir Khan’s decision. 5. The Qazi’s Verdict Finally, Wazir Khan summoned the Qazi. In the name of Sharia, the Qazi issued a verdict that the children should be bricked alive in the foundations. Even upon hearing this verdict, the Sahibzadas showed no sign of fear or distress on their faces.
