Nanakshahi Punjabi New Year 558 is an important occasion for Sikhs and the Punjabi community around the world. The Nanakshahi Calendar is named after Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. It was created to provide fixed dates for Sikh historical events and Gurpurabs so that they can be celebrated accurately each year. According to the Nanakshahi calendar, the new year begins on the first day of the month of Chet, which usually falls on March 14. This day is not only the start of a new calendar year but also symbolizes new hopes, fresh beginnings, and spiritual inspiration. On this day, special programs are organized in Gurdwaras, including Kirtan, Ardas, and Langar. Devotees gather in large numbers to offer prayers and thank Waheguru for blessings. They also pray for peace, prosperity, and happiness in the coming year. The Nanakshahi calendar was introduced in 2003 by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to standardize the celebration of Sikh historical events. The Nanakshahi New Year reminds people to follow the core principles of Sikhism such as selfless service (Seva), remembrance of God (Simran), and living a truthful life. On this auspicious occasion, heartfelt greetings and best wishes to everyone for the Nanakshahi Punjabi New Year.
